As the Netherlands Organ on Chip initiative (NOCI) we were represented by 7 posters and 5 presentations during the different sessions of the online EUROoCS 2020 meeting.

The presentation during the EUROoCS conference on intestine-on-chip, resulted in the “Young Investigators Presentation Award” for Joram Mooiweer and Renée Moerkens from UMCG.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a huge impact on every aspect of our lives. From the burden on our personal life to the restrictions it has put on our working life. Dennis Nahon, NOCI PhD student from the LUMC, gives an overview of initiatives regarding COVID-19 research from the OoC field.

During the corona-virus outbreak, the NOCI-researchers are confined to their homes to carry out the work that will eventually lead to the replacement of animal studies. Jeroen Stein (LUMC) wrote a blog about his daily life during the crisis.

Besides updating each other and discussing new ideas, the researchers received two trainings during the last NOCI retreat: A training on communication and collaboration in academia, and a time management training from “Het Effectieve Werken”.

Two NOCI PhD students Cayetano, Jens and other members of the Hubrecht team explain how a common E coli variant secretes a mutagen and induces a unique mutational signature upon chronic exposure inside gut organoids. This signature also occurs in some colon cancers.

De Hugo van Poelgeest-prijs is de oudste Nederlandse prijs voor proefdiervrij onderzoek. De prijs wordt dit jaar uitgereikt op Wereld Proefdierendag (24 april) tijdens de Proefdiervrijborrel.
